Help! My Kid has Food Allergies/Intolerances

No one, except those who have gone through it, know how it is to have a child that has food allergies or intolerances. It adds a lot of worry and stress on the family that I only fully understood once my son started to suffer from them.

*For ease of writing I will stick to the term "food allergy" even though I know that allergies and intolerance are two different things, they boil down to the same thing as far as food preparation goes.*

My son had been exclusively breastfed until he was well over a year old and when we switched to cows milk it took a while for us to realize that there was a problem. It was only once he stopped growing, started to loose weight, refused to eat and woke up in the night screaming in pain that we started to realize that something was seriously wrong.

It took months to figure out all of his allergens. When he had gained just under a pound in the period of eight months, I was so thrilled that I almost cried for joy- my son was finally gaining weight! At one point, I became so desperate for him to eat anything that I was thrilled when all he ate in a day were molasses cookies (gf) and almond milk. Which is what inspired the title of my blog.

I am starting this blog to be able to share recipes and tips that I have learned and also because I hope that my readers will share recipes and tips with me too!

My son has intolerances to the following foods:
Dairy
Gluten
Cocoa (chocolate)
Corn
Peanuts
Seafood

  1. Thamar, I have many food intolerances/allergies as well. I have always said that it would be SO much worse if it was one of my children.

    I have intolerances to:

    Gluten

Dairy (although goats milk and cheese seems to be ok for me)

Sugar (I even have to be careful with all sugars including fruit sugars as well)

    Caffine

    Sunflower seeds and some nuts

My mother also has all the intolerances that I have as well as many more. She has many wonderful recipes that she has created over the years.

I will go through all of my recipes and the ones my mom has shared with me and post them to your blog as soon as I can. I am always happy to share recipes and glean new ones to try. Let me know if I can help you in any other way. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your sweet little family. :o)

    Love In Christ,
